Publication Highlight: Study on the Self-Repairing Effect of Nanoclay in Powder Coatings for Corrosion Protection

Over the past several years, Dr. Marshall Yang has dedicated countless hours to training on and utilizing the advanced instrumentation and expertise available at Surface Science Western (SSW). During his tenure at SSW, Marshall used our field emission and tungsten filament scanning electron microscopy (FESEM / SEM), confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), laser Raman spectrometry, and micro computed tomography (Micro-CT). Upon completing his doctoral studies, Marshall embarked on a series of publications focusing on the role of additives and associated corrosion mechanisms in powder coatings.

His most recent publication that was published in the journal “Coatings”, titled “Study on the Self-Repairing Effect of Nanoclay in Powder Coatings for Corrosion Protection,” explores the utilization of montmorillonite-based nanoclay additives to enhance the corrosion-protective function of coatings. This research was a collaborative effort involving Research Scientists at SSW and various departments at Western University (Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Engineering).
